Overview

So, having seen all that, now that brings us to the question of, why should anyone want to buy the iPhone SE in 2022, and even in the next couple of years to come?

iPhone SE price in Nigeria

To begin with, this phone was launched way back in 2016, and it was based on the iPhone 5s that was launched three years before it, it came with a 4.0 inches IPS LCD display which a lot of people will consider miniature if going by today’s standards, but I still think display sizes is a thing of personal choice and preferences.

It is running on a 6 yrs old Apple A9 14nm processor, definitely not the fastest around, but it should get the job done, and it is fitted with just 2GB of RAM capacity no matter which of the storage variants you go for, whether the 16GB variant or the 32, 64GB, or 128GB variants.

And coming to the cameras, you’ve got a single 12MP shooter on the rear, and personally, I’ll say that it’s still a pretty solid camera since it can even do up to 4K@30fps video recording, something that most mid-range Android phones that cost way more than the SE cannot boast of.

And on the front, you have another lone ranger 1.2MP front-facing sensor, the exact same front-facing sensor found on the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone SE came running iOS 9.3.2 out of the box when it was announced back in 2016, but unsurprisingly, this phone is still receiving timely iOS software updates, and as a matter of fact, it is currently running on the latest iOS 15.2.

And coming to the battery aspect of it, the phone is fitted with a 1624mAh capacity cell inside of it, now considering the size of this battery, and considering how Apple phones have always had a lackluster battery life in the past, I wouldn’t really be placing my bet on this one.

So, having seen all the specs, now that brings us back to the question of, why should anyone want to buy the iPhone SE at its current price right now in Nigeria?

Well, if you asked me, I will say that first;

It’s because of the price, I mean, this is currently the cheapest decent Apple iPhone that you can get on the market right now running the latest version of the iOS software, so basically, it’s a shortcut to entering the Apple ecosystem without spending huge amounts on the newer iPhones.

Secondly, apart from the battery, I think this phone is still a pretty and solid piece of hardware even by today’s standard.

The display might not be the sharpest around, but at 4.0 inches, the overall pixel density will feed dust to that of most mid-range Android smartphones that we have today.

The camera is still pretty okay, for as long as camera picture quality is not one of your major criteria for buying the phone, and even coupled with the fact that the phone ships with a now 6 yrs old Apple chipset, it should still give you very decent and smooth performance for as long as you don’t push it to its limits.

So, for a current retailing price of about ₦35,000 to ₦60,000 depending on who you’re buying from, I will say that the iPhone SE is still worth it even in 2022, if you’re looking for a cheap way to sneak into the Apple ecosystem.
