Late last year, Tecno took to the stage (virtually) to announce the Tecno Pova phone. This was an entirely new phone lineup that Tecno heavily advertised as a gaming-centric device, and just today, not even up to a year from the first Pova phone announcement, Tecno has taken to the stage once again, to announce its follow up device, the Tecno Pova 2.

Starting with the display, the Tecno Pova 2 is fitted with a slightly larger 6.9 Inches LCD panel, with the resolution now capped at 1080p (Full HD+), though it still refreshes at the same 60Hz refresh rate just as the first Pova phone before it.

For reference purposes, the first Tecno Pova phone came with a 6.8 Inches 720p (HD+) same LCD panel.

Running under the hood is a Mediatek Helio G85 chipset that is paired with 6 Gigabytes of RAM, which in turn is wired down to 128 Gigabytes of internal storage capacity, and you still get a space for micro-SD card expansion.

In summary, what this means is that you should get slightly better performance on here, as compared to the first Pova phone which came with a Helio G80 processor.

The phone ships with Android 11 out of the box, with Tecno’s new HiOS 7.6 proprietary UI slapped on top of it, and in Tecno’s usual fashion, you shouldn’t be expecting an Android 12 update anywhere near this thing.

As for cameras, you’re getting an upgraded 48MP main sensor, up from 13MP on the first Pova phone, and three supporting 2MP sensors, which undoubtedly will consist of a 2MP depth sensor, a 2MP macro sensor, and lastly, a 2MP AI lens. While the front of the phone is fitted with an 8MP selfie camera.

One area where Tecno has taken big steps on the new Pova phone is on the battery aspect, as this phone comes equipped with a colossal 7000mAh battery, which is 1000mAh more than the already large 6000mAh cell that we saw on the first Pova.

It still charges at up 18W speeds which is same as before, but, it now does so via a USB Type-C medium. There’s nothing really spectacular or ground-breaking here in terms of the new charging port, but it just goes to show that Tecno is really beginning to catch up with the competition.

As of the moment of writing this article, this phone hasn’t been announced in all Tecno-recognized regions yet, as it has only be announced in Philippines, and pre-orders will kick off on June 11.
