Overview
Okay, so to begin with, the iPhone X was announced way back in September 2017 alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, and I must say that it’s the phone that shaped and inspired the future and design of iPhones that we have today.
So, for starters, it was the first iPhone with the notch which has now come to be an iPhone trademark feature, I mean, once you see a phone with a notch, the first phone that definitely comes to your mind is an iPhone.
Again, it’s the first iPhone where Apple ditched Touch ID and introduced Face ID, hence the notch.
But moving away from the notch, again, it’s the first iPhone to use an OLED display as older iPhones up to the iPhone 8 that even launched on the same day as it still made use of an LCD panel.
It’s a 5.8 inches display with an unusual resolution of 1125 x 2436 pixels, bringing the pixel density to 458 PPI. It’s got all the fancy features like HDR10, True Tone, Dolby Vision, and 3D Touch, but no high refresh rate whatever, I mean, high refresh rate on smartphone displays were not even a thing back in 2017, so, it’s forgivable.
It’s got a dual camera system on the back, same as the iPhone 8 Plus, and it’s a 12MP main sensor with OIS and Phase Detection Autofocus, and a second 12MP sensor for the telephoto lens which can do 2x optical zoom, and on the front is 7MP front-facing camera.
The iPhone X should still do pretty well in 2022 as it’s got all of the essential photography and videography features that the average user will need such as portrait mode, 4K@60fps maximum video recording resolution and framerate for the rear camera, except that the front-facing camera is limited to 1080p@60fps.
Moving further, the iPhone X came with the Apple A11 Bionic chipset, it’s a 10 nm processor with six cores, and is paired with just 3GB of RAM, and given Apple’s past records of excellent optimization of both their hardware and software, I’m very sure the iPhone X will pose no usability issues to anyone in 2022 in terms of the performance and the day-to-day usage.
But be careful though, cause this phone was notoriously known for running very hot back in 2017.
In terms of software, it came running iOS 11 out of the box was it announced in 2017, and since given Apple’s long term support tendency, it’s currently running iOS 15.5 and will be getting the upcoming iOS 16 update when it finally made official in September later year.
And for the battery aspect, it’s got a pretty small 2716 mAh capacity cell, and given Apple’s past records of having some of the worst battery lives on its iPhones, it’s sad to say that if you’re looking for the iPhone 13’s type of battery life, then this is not the phone for, and given that the chipset inside of it runs extremely hot, it also helped to contribute to the iPhone X’s very, I mean, very poor battery life.
But again, aside from the poor battery life on this thing, I still think the iPhone X is a very nice phone to buy in 2022 especially for people who are looking for a cheaper way to get into the Apple walled garden without buying an already outdated iPhone like the iPhone 6 and 7s.
It’s still got some of the basic features you’d get on the newer iPhones and that Apple has been known for such as superior performance and smooth UI, very good cameras even by today’s standards, long-term software support, a nice set of stereo speakers, an IP68 rating, Face ID, wireless charging, and whatnot.
So, like I already said, if you’re looking for a less expensive way to own an iPhone without buying one that is already outdated, then for a starting price of ₦155,000 for the for the UK used ones here in Nigeria, I still think iPhone X is a very solid device to buy in 2022, and one that I’ll definitely recommend to anyone.
