As of when writing this article, the Tecno Camon 19 Pro price in Nigeria yet unknown as the phone itself hasn’t been announced in the country, but for reference, the phone is currently up for pre-order at KES 24,500 in Kenyan, which converts to about NGN 87,000 here in Nigeria, but again, we’d still have to wait for the company to announce the phone here, and state its official selling price in the Nigerian currency.

Overview

To begin with and to be honest, I must say that the Tecno Camon 19 Pro is in a very confusing position right now.

What I mean is, you can’t really tell if it is meant to be a successor to the Camon 18 Premier or Camon 18P from last year, and to be honest, it’s looking more like a successor to the 18P, but at the same time, Tecno never mentioned it anywhere if there is a more superior Camon 19 Premier or anything of such coming out some other time this year.

So, for starters, the Tecno Camon 19 Pro comes with a 6.8 inches 1080p (Full HD+) IPS LCD display with a 120Hz screen refresh rate, and which is exactly the same display used on the Camon 18P, but the 18 Premier on the other hand, has a better 6.7 inches AMOLED panel with same 1080p resolution, and also a 120Hz screen refresh rate.

Moving further and in terms of performance, the new phone ships with the same MediaTek Helio G96 processor that was used on the 18 Premier and 18P smartphones, it comes with 8GB of RAM as the only RAM option, but you get to chose between two storage options, 128 and 256GB.

The only new thing on the Camon 19 Pro in terms of performance is its new Android 12 version as opposed to Android 11 on the older models, and a slightly new version of the Tecno HiOS UI, the HiOS 8.6.

Now, coming to the cameras, it might seem like the Tecno Camon 19 Pro has a superior setup than the 18 Premier because Tecno claims it has the world’s first RGBW camera sensor manufactured by Samsung on it, but the tech jargons aside, the Tecno Camon 18 Premier actually has a much better camera setup than it, and here’s what I mean.

For starters, on the Camon 19 Pro, of course you’re getting the new 64MP RGBW camera sensor that is aided by a laser autofocusing system, and it even has OIS, then comes a 50MP 2x optical zoom telephoto unit, and a 2MP depth sensor, but that’s where it all ends.

Now, coming to the Camon 18 Premier, again, you’re getting a 64MP main camera sensor, but this time, instead of the 50MP telephoto unit as seen on the 19 Pro, you’re getting a much better 8MP 5x optical zoom periscope telephoto camera, and lastly, a 12MP ultrawide camera with a gimbal style OIS, which is completely lacking on the Camon 19 Pro.

And as if that isn’t convincing enough, the Camon 18 Premier can actually record 4K videos at 30fps, while the new Camon 19 Pro can only manage to do up to 1080p at same 30fps.

In fact, the Camon 19 Pro’s cameras are more comparable to those of the Camon 18P than it is to the 18 Premier.

And finally, as for the battery, the phone is packing a 5000 mAh cell, and can fast charge up to 33W, which should fill the battery from 0 to 100% in just under 70 mins.

So, you’ve seen why I said that the new Tecno Camon 19 Pro is in a very confusing position as to which phone from the Camon 18 series it exactly succeeds.

So, I’m guessing that at this moment, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and wait until Tecno does its official unveiling of the phone here in Nigeria, and maybe by that time, we’ll actually get to see or know which of the Camon smartphones from last year it is taking over from.
