Overview
The iPhone XR was announced alongside the iPhone XS and XS Max in September 2018 as a cheaper alternative to those, and for a slightly less starting price stage, here’s what you’d get on the phone.
First is a 6.1 inches LCD display as opposed to the OLED panels that you get on the more expensive models.
In Apple’s usual fashion, the phone is clad in an unnamed version of Gorilla Glass on both the front and the back, giving it a premium touch, and it’s IP67 rated for ingress protection against water and dust.
The camera comes in as a single 12MP sensor on the back, similar to the one used on the iPhone 8, and on the front sits the good old 7MP front-facing camera.
Video recording maxes out at 4K@60fps for the rear camera, and 1080p@60fps for the front camera, placing it among the best video recording smartphones you can find anywhere, even in 2022.
For performance, you get the A12 Bionic chipset, which was Apple’s flagship chipset for 2018, and still remains one of the best performing chipsets in 2022, and comes with 3GB of RAM.
It runs iOS 12 out of the box and can be upgraded to the latest iOS 15.5 version. You get the usual stereo speaker setup and everything else that you’ve come to expect from a premium Apple device.
