Exit Switzerland, a Swiss subsidiary company, announced that their assisted suicide pod called Sarco (short for Sarcophagus) is coming soon. Dr. Philip Nitschke, the mastermind behind this aesthetic machine, shared that the pod will be in Switzerland “in the next few weeks”, as reported by the Swiss newspaper NZZ.
The controversial machine, shaped like something from a futuristic age, is expected to be used for the first time very soon. Several groups have condemned the creation of this exit tool, with one of them highlighting that there are alternative ways to assist people.
Dr. Philip Nitschke who formerly burned his medical licence has been a strong advocate for suicide, and even published a book titled “The Peaceful Pill” wherein he taught people how to commit painless suicide.
His upcoming machine Sarco, which is also called “Tesla of Assisted Suicide” kills an occupant by use of Nitrogen. Dr Nitschke explained that the person only has to answer some questions to the machine and then press a certain button to get killed.

One of the peculiarities of the Sarco pod is its difference from other “accepted” means of suicide. There are other Swiss companies who offer assisted suicide services, but they usually use ingestion of liquid sodium pentobarbital. Furthermore, they have been legalized in Switzerland, unlike Sarco.
Could Dr Philip Nitschke Be Sued?
No one has the right to sell medical devices in Switzerland without government permission. Additionally, assisting someone who wishes to commit suicide can lead the assister into trouble, especially if done for selfish reasons. These are some actions for which Dr. Philip Nitschke could be accused.
However, Dr. Nitschke is undoubtedly familiar with these aspects of Switzerland’s constitution. While this knowledge may not prevent legal action against him, he likely has made plans to mitigate any negative outcomes in court.
Though many want to see the Swiss assisted suicide pod Sarco which Exit Switzerland says is coming soon, lots more are likely cringing at the invention.
