You must first change the default transfer PIN, which is “0000” to a personal 4-digit PIN before you can start transferring airtime on your MTN line.

Send an SMS in this format, “Default PIN New PIN New Pin” to the number, 321.
For example, 0000 1234 1234, and send it to 321.
Alternatively, you can use the USSD format, *321*0000*1234*1234#, and press send.
Whichever method you use, your default pin will be immediately changed to the new one, and you can start making your airtime transfers.

How to transfer airtime on MTN, using SMS format

Open your messages app, and send an SMS in this format, “Transfer recipient’s number amount PIN”, and send it to the number, 321.
For example, Transfer 08031234567 500 1234, and send it to 321.
After sending the SMS, the receiver will receive the stated airtime amount, and you’ll also get an SMS confirming the transfer.

First of all, kindly follow the link above to download the MTN mobile app if you don’t have it installed on your phone before now.
After doing that, open it, and if it is your first time using it, you’ll first be required to create an account using your MTN phone number, and a login PIN.
Otherwise, simply log in to the app with your existing account.
From the app’s homepage, tap on the “Share” option.
Select “Airtime“, and tap on “New Number“
On the next page, enter the recipient’s phone number, and the amount of airtime you want to transfer.
