So, having seen that, that brings us to the question of;

Why should you or anyone want to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 now?

I mean, this phone was announced a solid 7 yrs ago, it has been discontinued by the company (Samsung) that made it, it runs on an old Exynos processor, the cameras must have been outdated by now and the software too, and even still, you can get newer and better Android phones from various brands at the same price range as the Galaxy Note 5, so, why bother?

Reasons why you might want to choose the Galaxy Note 5 after 5 yrs

Okay, to start with;

Yes, this phone was announced a whole 7 yrs ago which is almost nearing a decade now, and as such, it runs on old and outdated components especially when it comes to the mobile processor, the cameras, software, and maybe the batteries too.

But, if you’re looking for one of the cheapest ways to own a Samsung Galaxy Note phone with a built-in S-Pen, a great display, and superb build quality, and you choose not to look at its flaws which even isn’t really the phone’s fault to start with because the specs which are considered outdated here were actually some of the chart-topping specs way back in 2015, and come to think of it, this is literally the only Samsung Galaxy Note phone that costs less than a hundred thousand nairas right now in Nigeria, the follow-up of it which is the Galaxy Note 8 that was announced in 2017 after the Note 7’s battery fiasco starts somewhere between ₦90,000 – 100,000 for the used one.

So, like I said, if you can look past its flaws, then you’ll realize that the Galaxy Note 5 is still a very solid piece of hardware.

Starting with the display, it’s got a 5.7 inches 1440p resolution Super AMOLED panel that is covered with a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass 4 glass. This is something that you don’t even see on most premium and higher mid-range Android phone brands that cost way more than what you’re paying for the Note 5.

Most phones above the ₦100K price range will get you just a 1080p display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection, or most times, no protection at all.

Coming to the design, you get a glass build with another Corning Gorilla Glass 4 sheet on its back and a metal frame which are all considered to be the benchmarks for grading premium phone builds, it’s got that old iconic Samsung look which might even be one of the reasons why some people might consider going for it in the first place, and it’s got an S-Pen too.

The phone isn’t IP-rated, but I guess that shouldn’t be one of the buying criteria of anyone who is considering buying this phone in 2022, it’s got a single 16MP rear camera on the back that has OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), and it can even record 4K videos at up to 30fps, again, one of the features you don’t easily see on newer Android phones that costs about the same as the Note 5.

On the front is a 5MP front-facing camera that can even do 2K (1440p) video recording at same 30fps, and coming to the software aspect of the phone, the phone was announced with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop way back in 2015, but it got two major updates, and it’s now running on Android 7.0 Nougat.

In terms of software, yeah, Android 7 Nougat is pretty old, but I think Android started getting their sh*ts right starting from Android 5 Lollipop, so, I think I can live with the 7 Nougat if I was to get this phone.

Then finally, the battery, this phone is fitted with a 3000mAh capacity battery, but considering the fact that batteries actually degrades in health over a long period of time whether they’re being used or not, I wouldn’t really be placing my bets on this one in favor of the Note 5’s battery life, and I’m pretty sure that you’d want to invest in a very good charger if I was you getting this phone right now.

So, in conclusion, for just about ₦45,000 – 70,000 right here in Nigeria, this is currently the cheapest way to own a Samsung Galaxy Note with a built-in S-Pen, a super high-resolution display, great and premium build quality, and……

That is just it.
