Infinix S5 vs S4 vs Hot 8 In-depth Review Comparison

Design & Display

  • Infinix S4: 156 x 75 x 7.9 mm | 154g | 6.2 Inches Display
  • Infinix S5: 164 x 76 x 7.9 mm | 178g | 6.6 “
  • Infinix Hot 8: 165 x 76.3 x 8.7 mm | 179g | 6.52 “

So like i said before, the Infinix S4, S5 and the Hot 8, have quite a lot of things in common, and when it comes to how these three phones look, that fact cannot be disputed, especially when you turn them to their rear sides.

While the Infinix S4 happens to be the smallest of the trio, probably because of its smaller display size, they still tried to maintain the same left mounted vertical camera placement.

And while the S4 and Hot 8 are both gambling with triple rear cameras, the S5 took it up a notch and came with four.

But the little difference here is, the Infinix S4 and S5 both have their rear camera flashlights, outside their camera modules, while that of the Hot 8 is placed within the cameras inside the module.

They all have their fingerprint readers placed on their rear sides beside the cameras.

The S4 is a 6.2 Inches device and the smallest of them in terms of form factor, while the Hot 8 hops ahead with a 6.52 Inches display, and then the S5 wins the race with a massive 6.6 Inches.

But not withstanding the massive screen sizes and overall form factors of the Hot 8 and S5 respectively, the both phones doesn’t feel any less comfortable or too large when held in your hands, thanks to their new 20:9 aspect ratios.

Aside from display sizes, the Infinix S4 and Hot 8 look and feel very similar, because they both makes use of a water drop notch, while the S5 came with a hole punch camera display.

This is the first device from Infinix to come with this type of display though, and we’re likely to see more of their devices, coming with this design this year.

Their resolutions are all capped to HD+ (720p), and they all make use of LCD panels.

So to conclude on the aspect of design and display of these smartphones, personally I’d say there’s no clear winner here as they all have similar designs and similar displays, all with a HD+ resolution and an LCD panel.

But if i must choose based on which one that looks more sleek, then I’d go for the Infinix S5, probably because of the hole in the display. So somehow, the Infinix S5 still manages to win in this aspect.

Cheers to the S5. Now let’s talk about something else.

Cameras

  • Infinix S4: 13 + 8 + 2MP | 32MP Front
  • Infinix S5: 16 + 5 + 2 + Ai Lens | 32MP Front
  • Infinix Hot 8: 13 + 2 + QVGA Sensor | 8MP

Now if you’d ask me which amongst these three smartphones have the best cameras, my reply will be like;

If you’re out there contemplating on which of three smartphones to get, with respect to their photo quality, then I’d say that you should just close your eyes and pick one already.

Reason being that; forget about the number of camera lenses or megapixel counts of those lenses, these smartphones, simply take the same quality of photos, no matter how you want to compare them.

I mean I’ve tested these smartphones, and i know what their picture qualities look like. I would have loved to upload a side by side photo comparison of the trio, but as at the time of writing this article, these phones aren’t with me anymore.

But just to cap it all up, you shouldn’t be expecting any flagship-like camera performance from any of these phones. They are all mid-range devices, and their camera qualities are just as they should be.

It will be okay for you if you don’t care much about photo quality on smartphones, megapixel count, video shooting resolutions and all of those jargon.

So in conclusion I’d say that the Infinix S4, S5 and Hot 8 will give you very bright, contrasty, maybe crisp photos when shooting in favorable light conditions such as during daytime, but take them indoors, or when darkness starts creeping in, and things might suddenly start beginning to go south.

Infinix S4 vs S5 vs Hot 8 – Hardware and Performance

  • Infinix S4: Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12 nm) | 32/64GB + 3/6GB RAM
  • Infinix S5: Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12 nm) | 64/128GB + 4/6GB RAM
  • Infinix Hot 8: Mediatek MT6762 Helio P22 (12 nm) | 32/64GB + 2/4GB RAM

As you can see from the list above, the three smartphones in question, all ship with the same processor, a low-end to midrange Mediatek Helio P22 chipset, and the only factor differentiating each one from the other, being just their RAM and internal storage capacities.

So what does this tell us? Simple, when contemplating on which of these smartphones to get among the three, performance or speed shouldn’t be a differentiating factor, but instead you should focus more on the amount of RAM and the internal storage that you’re getting.

Advertisements

Though the amount of RAM on a smartphone can help boost things up a bit, but the processor itself is what determines how fast or slow a mobile device is operating.

And by right, a lot of persons who are willing to get new smartphones will want to go for the ones with larger RAMs and much bigger internal storage.

So i guess the Infinix S5 takes the crown here, not because it is feels any faster or snappier though, but just because of that extra oomph that its got both in RAM and internal storage capacity.

Software

  • Infinix S4: Android 9.0 Pie, XOS 5.0 Cheetah
  • Infinix S5: ” 9.0 Pie, XOS 5.5 Cheetah
  • Infinix Hot 8: ” 9.0 Pie, XOS 5.5 Cheetah

The Infinix S4 was the first Infinix smartphone to launch with the new and rebranded version of Infinix XOS UI, the XOS 5.0 Cheetah.

Then as time went on, Infinix began to roll out subsequent updates to this new XOS version, so Infinix smartphones such as the Hot 8 and S5 that launched towards the end of 2019, all came with the latest versions of XOS Cheetah out of the box.

PLOT TWIST: You can update the Infinix S4 to the latest version of XOS Cheetah, by going to “About phones“, and going to “Software updates“.

Personally, i don’t see any drastic changes between the original version of XOS Cheetah and its subsequently new releases, cept for just some UI changes, addition of new themes and wallpapers to the XOS store, the re-introduction of Infinix Xhide, and that is it.

So in terms of UI and software, the Infinix S4, S5 and Hot 8 are basically the same thing. I mean there’s nothing that you’ll see on this that cannot be found on this. So nobody takes the crown here.

Battery

  • Infinix S4: 4000mAh
  • Infinix S5: 4000mAh
  • Infinix Hot 8: 5000mAh

Personally I’d used to consider 4000mAh batteries on smartphones as a beast, but not until the Hot 8 came out, and wielding a 5000mAh battery, and that was when i was taken off-balance.

Initially i thought that Infinix was going to continue this trend with subsequent Infinix phones, but the S5 came out later towards the end of the year with another 4000mAh battery, and then i started having doubts as to what Infinix was really planning to achieve in this life.

But not withstanding, 4000mAh is still much power to reckon with, and neither will the Infinix S4 or S5 disappoint you, but if you need that extra oomph in terms of battery life, then the Hot 8 is definitely the phone to be.

Infinix S4 vs S5 vs Hot 8 – Pricing

Now this is one of the most crucial aspect that most people look at when planning to get new smartphones, and in the case of the Infinix S4, the S5 and the Hot 8, a lot of things come in to play.

First of all, from our reviews so far, we have come to see that the three smartphones in question, are basically the same thing, ranging from having similar designs, to having the same processors, the same android versions and XOS UI versions, etc.

Advertisements

Now the only differentiating factors that we can think of, is mainly their differences in RAM and storage options, and then secondly, their difference in display sizes and overall form factors.

And i think that is what makes their prices to vary.

So first of all, let’s start with the S4.

Infinix S4

  • 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage – 45,000 Naira, Buy Here.
  • 6GB RAM + 64GB Storage – 58,500 Naira, Buy Here.

Infinix S5

  • 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage – 53,250 Naira, Buy Here.
  • 6GB RAM + 128GB Storage – 65,500 Naira, Buy Here.
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage (Infinix S5 Lite) – 44,000 Naira, Buy Here.

Infinix Hot 8

  • 2GB RAM + 32GB Storage – 37,000 Naira, Buy Here.
  • 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage – 40,500 Naira, Buy Here.
  • 2GB RAM + 32GB Storage (Hot 8 Lite) – 33,300, Buy Here.

Conclusion

Now in conclusion, I’d say that everything still comes down to personal preference. And again looking at their spec lookalikes and prices differences, i think a lot of people will be choosing the Infinix Hot 8 over the rest two, because it has literally everything that you’d find on both the S4 and S5, even with a much larger battery, but at a more reasonable pricing.

But if hole punch camera designs on smartphones happens to be one of your numerous problems in this life, coupled with 6GB of RAM and a 128GB of internal storage, and a quad camera setup that doesn’t really do much, then you might be willing to go all in for the S5.

And then lastly the S4 might still come in handy for those people who just love how compact the phone feels in the hand, and don’t care much about 5000mAh batteries and hole punch camera designs on smartphones.

Advertisements

But the thing here is, whichever one you’re going for, you’re definitely not gonna be making any wrong decisions at all.

The S4 received lots of praises and cheers from the crowd when it came out during early 2019, and the S5 just came to add more icing to the cake without changing much.

While for the Hot 8, it is definitely on the different league of its own, when it comes to battery life.

So do let us know what you think about these smartphones in the comments section below, don’t forget to share this article if you enjoyed reading it, and as always, I’ll see you all tomorrow, #Peace Out.
