Infinix Hot 7 Review – Affordable Smart Phone With Flagship Design

So as you all know, the new Infinix Hot 7 is a successor to last year’s Hot 6 smartphone, and which in my opinion, was Infinix best selling smartphone of last year.

So if the Hot 6 could do so well, then i bet the Hot 7 should do even better. And without further ado, let’s take say 5 minutes maximum out of our time, to tell you a story of the new Infinix Hot 7 smart phone.

Credits – Techish.

BUT BEFORE WE CONTINUE – I want to use this medium to apologise to the Hot 7 and Infinix Mobility as a whole, including all lovers and users of Infinix devices worldwide, that i’m very sorry about an article i wrote a couple of months ago, where i spoke really ill of the Infinix Hot 7 smart phone.

Right now, i will say i made that post out of ignorance and anger. As at that time, i really didn’t understand the motive behind the Infinix Hot series smartphones.

I was comparing them to the likes of Huawei and Xiaomi, and so i thought that Infinix was just giving us crap year after year with low specs and all that.

But right now, i fully understand and get it that these smartphones were originally meant to be as cheap as possible so that a low income earner like me or even a secondary school student could afford one.

So you don’t expect them to give you the latest Snapdragon or Mediatek processor, or even a 4 to 6GB of RAM. No, that will mean deviating from the original motive of the phone.

And even speaking of crap, even the Huawei i was comparing them to, still has phones with very identical specs to the Hot 7 in 2019, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is a very good example, so why the hate?.

So once again i say I’m very sorry to the Hot 7, Infinix Mobility and all Infinix Xfans worldwide. I say PLEASE FORGIVE ME.

So back to the topic for today.. The Infinix Hot 7 review.

Now first of all, just as it was with last year’s Hot 6, the Hot 7 comes in three variants, there is the Hot 7 Android Go Edition, has 1GB of RAM and a 16GB of storage and a single 13MP rear facing camera, then there is the standard Hot 7 with 2GB of RAM and either a 16GB or 32GB of storage and a dual 13 + 8MP rear facing cameras, then finally we have the Hot 7 Pro with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and same 13 + 8MP rear facing cameras as the standard Hot 7.

So don’t get yourself confused when trying to figure out or decide on which one to get.

•  RAM & Storage 1GB + 16GB 2GB + 16/32GB 3GB + 32GB

•  Back 13MP 13 + 8MP 13 + 8MP
•  Front 8MP 8MP 8MP

Now let’s talk about their design.

Infinix Hot 7 Review – Design and Display

So in terms of design, we will say the Hot 7 took a lot of resemblance from last year’s Hot S3X and 6X smart phones, and it looked nothing liked it’s predecessor Hot 6.

Though the Hot 6 was a striking smartphone in terms of looks, but we couldn’t help but just say the 7 looks much more better.

Infinix Hot 7 design

It has a notch that is etched into it’s large 6.2 Inches HD+ display, which is a slight upgrade in terms of size from the Hot 6’s 6.0 Inches display, and a one that especially the ladies are gonna love, because why not? It looks like an iPhone X, and because of its highly reduced top bezel, the Hot 7 doesn’t feel any larger or hard to use with one hand than the Hot 6 even with its larger screen.

So for design, i will say i really love what Infinix did here.. Good job Infinix.

Infinix Hot 7 display review

Coming to other aspects of the design, at the back we have a vertically aligned camera or cameras respectively, for the Hot 7 Android Go Edition, the Hot 7 & 7 Pro.

Beside the camera at the centre of the device is a fingerprint reader which is not as fast as i would have wanted it to, but since it still gets the job done, then no problems.

There is an “Infinix” branding below that fingerprint reader, then at the bottom of the device is a “Hot” branding.

Now don’t mistake this phone for glass or any other material, because this is clearly plastic, and the back cover is removable to reveal the sim card and Micro-SD card slots, as well as the 4000mAh battery, which i think is now a trademark for all Infinix Hot devices.

And moving round the device, you get the usual suspects, a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top, the right sides contains the volume rockers and power button, on the left is nothing, at the bottom is a micro-USB 2.0 port and a microphone hole.

Then inside the notch at the top of the device on the front, lies an 8MP front facing camera, and i think that’s all that there is to it for the design of this smart phone. Now let’s move on to some other aspects of it.

Infinix Hot 7 Review – RAM, Processor and Storage

Well in terms of RAM, and like i said up there, this device comes in three distinct variants. The Hot 7 Android Go Edition ships with a 1GB of RAM and a 16GB of internal storage, then we have a standard Hot 7 with a 2GB of RAM with either a 16GB or 32GB of storage, and finally is the Pro version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Now even if i have apologized to Infinix for speaking ill of the Hot 7, that doesn’t still dispute the fact that this phone ships with a now dead and buried Mediatek MT6580 Processor.

This was the same processor that was used on the Hot 2 way back in 2015, it was the same processor that was still used on the Hot 3, 4, 5, the Hot 6 made use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 Chipset which is no different from it, and now it made a return on the Hot 7.

I don’t know if i should be happy or sad, but one thing is for sure, and that thing is, the people who are gonna be buying these smartphones are probably not gonna have any issues with it in terms of speed and lagging, because they’re most probably ladies and all they’re probably gonna be making use of them for are taking photos, chatting on social media and all that.

But it only becomes a concern and as as well as a problem someone like me buys it and plans to start using it for literally everything you can use a smart phone to do like it was one flagship device, then that is when it will begin to stutter and probably freeze up because it couldn’t take it no more.

So for as long as you’re not pushing it beyond its limits, the Infinix Hot 7 will follow you at your own pace.

Infinix Hot 7 Review – Software

Sadly, the Hot 7 once again ships with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, together with Infinix’s latest XOS 4.1 Honeybee UI.

There’s really nothing much to say here, but if you’ve been using past Infinix devices before, with XOS UI, then this shouldn’t look anything new or different to you.

You’ll get the usual suspects such as Xhide, Freezer, XClub, XPower, XSecurity and all that, together with some newly added features, things like Smart Screen Split, Expanded view, Scan to recharge and all that.

You can read all you need to know about Infinix’s new XOS Honeybee UI Right here. But what’s more sad is that these phones does not have any hope as to whether they’ll get updated to Android Pie or not.

So for now, whatever you buy stays with you until Infinix finally decides to start pushing android version updates to their Hot series smart phones.

Infinix Hot 7 Review – Camera

Now before going to buy yourself the Hot 7 smart phone, here is one thing i need to tell you. If you’re buying this smart phone because you need a top notch camera phone that is crystal clear and has all those gimmicky features like AI Scene Recognition and all that, then I’m sorry to tell you but this is definitely not the phone for you.

I’m not saying the Hot 7’s camera is that bad either, no, all i’m saying is, it is okay, at least slightly above average.

Whatever you snap with the cameras of these phones comes out crystal clear, but lacks all those details and depths and all that.

So here’s what i’m gonna say to you right now, if you’re very low on budget, but you just need something that can take very nice photos that are at least shareable on social media, then the Hot 7 is definitely the phone for you, else, you should wait for the Hot S4 that is coming out in just a couple of days to come.

Verdict

So here’s our verdict for the Hot 7. If you’re just an average smart phone user, maybe you just need a pretty good, beautiful and solid smart to keep yourself company with, maybe do things like watching movies, playing those girly games such as Candy Crush, Subway Surfer and all that, listening to music, Facebook(ing), WhatsApp and every other social media platform out there, making and receiving calls, and taking photos on casualty, then the Hot 7 is definitely the phone for you.

But anything greater than that, then the Hot 7 might turn out to be the worst purchasing decision that you’ve ever made.

And secondly, if you already own any of the Hot 6 series, especially if you already own the Hot 6 Pro and you’re looking forward to getting this too, then i’d say it’s definitely not worth it.

It will be better if you own something like the Hot 6 Android Go Edition with the 1GB of RAM, then upgrading to something like the Hot 7 Pro is definitely a very nice decision to make, but even at that, everything still falls to personal preferences and decisions.

  1. I'm using Hot 6 Pro, 2/16! I think this will be my last Infinix phone! I've used Hot2, Hot3,Hot4 Pro and now Hot6 Pro! I loved the Hot4 Pro, but was tricked to buy the Hot 6Pro which I've now regretted!!!

  2. Sorry about that bro.. I think the only sections where Infinix have phones is on the Note and Zero series.. they are even beginning to fuck up on the zero series sef.

Can you imagine, the Zero 6 was supposed to be launched since last year November, but even till this time, nobody has heard anything about it. no leaks, no rumors..nothing..

If they're going to scrap out the Zero series, let them make it known to us.. I'm as tired as you bro

  3. I bought the Infinix Hot 6 Pro 2GB and it hangs sum times and with the 2GB it's slows down sometimes. Am very sure this is the last Infinix phone I will use. When buying phone speed that is phone that respond at all the speed of touch. I doubting this Hot 7 before but your write-up as shown it's really not worth it. Thanks
